- 晚安 (Wǎn’ān): Good night
- 晚 (Wǎn): Late; night
- 安 (安): Safe; peace; secure
晚 means “night”. 安 means “safe” or “peaceful”.
Literally, Wan An means “have a peaceful night.”
晚 also means “late”. Hence, Wan An can be used to say “good evening” as well.
